Social networking tools for health promotion
In response to @gauden's request I am reposting what was initially a comment to @okeyos' question. Connect2change is a wonderful forum particularly for those of us unable to attend this important conference in person. Social networking technologies have opened incredible opportunities for sharing knowledge and building communities of practice. They are also becoming powerful health promotion tools. I am really looking forward to seeing these in action during this conference. For those new to social networking/web 2.0 tools, below, I share a few links that I have found useful.
Blogging
- A blog is an online diary or journal - the posting of chronological entries that allow readers to comment and participate in a conversation. By assigning tags and assigning, it is easy to retrieve entries on the same topic. There's blogging functionality on this connect2change forum which is excellent. @gauden's post provides easy instructions.
- You'll probably want to keep blogging on connect2change to keep connected with this community. It's also good to know that there are lots of free blogging tools out there. I recently started blogging on Wordpress http://wordpress.org/ which I find both userfriendly and powerful.
- My blog http://shebamuturi.wordpress.com/ is very basic but I hope to develop it further as I learn about the advanced features.
- Here's an introduction to blogging: http://www.unc.edu/~zuiker/blogging101/
Twitter is considered microblogging because you are posting messages that are only 140 characters long. You follow people who may also follow you back.

And of course, you can tweet about your blog postings. Those of us not attending in person are depending on live blogging and tweeting by the conference attendees so please keep those posts and tweets coming.

Thanks, and a feed
@shebamuturi -- thanks for the quick action. I have taken the liberty of adding a feed to your blog (which I like very much) and want to check if this is OK with you. Your blog posts will be reflected here and will be credited to you. See how you like it and we can simply change it into a link if you prefer.
Thanks for linking to my blog
@c2cAdmin, of course, I really like the idea of adding a feed from my blog very much. I am new at this so this will inspire me to post more frequently. This is an excellent way of integrating in one place - the different fora where people are blogging at - which is the whole point of web 2.0. Really cool!
